Should you accept our proposition, you’re in for a ride that passes ancient churches, rustic farm estates, charming olive groves and quaint vineyards. Starting from Lucca’s Santa Maria Gate, the route crosses the Plain of Lucca before winding partway up the Pizzorne foothills or the mountainous area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

From the villages of Matraia, Valgiano and San Pietro in Marcigliano, you’ll easily point out Montecarlo, Monte Serra and Lucca in the distance. Whether you’re a #newbie,  a recreational e-biker or a racer with palmarès, this loop makes folks happy — just like clockwork.

## Importante

The route finishes crossing the Plain of Lucca for a second time. In an effort to select the quietest roads possible, there's a @slice[200-meter gravel sector](d,42175.2,42442.9), easily ridden with a road bike.

Shorten your ride by taking any of the four roads leading down the hillside between @slice[20 and 24 kilometers](d,20447.6,24468.9) into the route.
