The Oxbow Overnighter is an easily accessible trip that connects the city to farmlands and Oxbow park. The route begins at the Douglas State Trailhead in Rochester and traverses a mix of paved and gravel roads with a fair share of steep climbs and fun descents.

Routedetails

The Oxbow Overnighter is an easily accessible trip that connects the city to farmlands and Oxbow park.  The route is moderately difficult due to the steep gravel climbs that will likely require pushing a loaded bike.  The route begins at the @point[Douglas State Trailhead](d,32.43) in Rochester and traverses a mix of paved and gravel roads with a fair share of @photo[steep climbs](11165617) and fun descents.

On the way to @poi[Oxbow park](41989289), this route utilizes paved bike trails in Byron and Mantorville to connect gravel roads and offer plentiful food and drink options.  Oxbow park has 8 miles of @photo[hiking trails](11378521) and a wonderful zoo with over 30 species of animals native to Minnesota.  The riding after Oxbow is a mix of open farmlands and wooded river valleys.

Although the hills can be steep, the Oxbow Overnighter is a great introduction to bikepacking!  The route allows for many modifications including riding to the start by utilizing Rochester’s bike trail network or shortening the route by going to the Douglas Trail after mile 36.

# Important Reminders

Be sure to stock up on food in @poi[Matorville](41989288) as there are not any food stops after this point.  The last spot for water is at the Oxbow Park Campground.
