Coyote Trail is a favorite among many local bicycle clubs. As most of the route is on rural roads the traffic should be generally light.

Routedetails

This is a local favorite route called Coyote Trail. This has great rollers and generally light traffic. Enjoy the views as you travel past @point[Pretty Water Lake](d,28316.77), @point[Lake Sahoma](d,29512.46), and over @point[Lake Keystone Dam](d,58265.91). Once you are on Coyote Trail it is 10 miles great scenery, rollers, and the possibility of spotting deer and other wildlife along the way. This is a 63 mile route with 1,979 ft of elevation gain that is self supported. So be sure of your fitness level before you embark on the ride.

# Route

* There is easy parking at Tulsa Riverparks @poi[96th St and Riverside](5310941) or across the bridge at the @poi[Riverwalk Jenks.](5310948)
* The start of this route is at Tulsa Riverparks. You'll only be on the trail system for approximately 1/2 mile as you cross the pedestrian bridge into Jenks.
* Jenks, OK is a bedroom community to Tulsa and the leadout through here is a great place to get fully warmed-up for the ride. 
			
     	Many routes headed west will come through this area.
* The first 7 miles is mostly flat with easy grades.
* When you get to **111th Street** you will turn west and be heading to your first climb. It's a local favorite and Strava segment called @slice[Hilton Hill](d,12699.56,13692.5). It's just over 1/2 mile (.6) with the steepest section at 9.2%. If you're riding with a group, just after the stop sign at the top of the hill is an easy regroup spot.
* From Hilton Hill there are a few easy-moderate climbs as you make your way past @photo[Pretty Water](3215463) Lake towards another local favorite, Coyote Trail.
* @slice[Coyote Trail](d,37098.32,53800.97) has light traffic, rollers, and great scenery. Coyote Trail has only one stop sign (see below). Otherwise, 10 miles of bliss.
* At the end of Coyote Trail is your first available stop called @poi[Coyote Corner](5310947). It will be on your left, with a steep driveway on both sides. Watch for oncoming turning traffic from Hwy 51 as you turn in.
* There are ooportunities to stop in Sand Springs. 
* In Sand Springs you will make your way onto the @slice[Tulsa Riverparks Trail system](d,75705.58,104483.11) back to Tulsa and to the 96th St Park.
* A slight detour while on the trail will lead you to the @photo[Cyrus Avery Centennial Plaza](3215469). Before crossing the river on the @slice[Route 66 pedestrian bridge](d,84019.96,84369.39), turn left and it will be on your left.

## Intersections to be aware of

These areas will require extra caution:

* @point[W 91st St South and Hwy 97](d,24966.27). Hwy 97 is a divided highway so you can cross it safely a half at a time.
* @point[Coyote Trail and W. 41st Street](d,41484.83). The way these roads intersect as a 'Y' is what makes it dangerous. Be aware of vehicle speeds the are east bound on from Coyote Trail to W. 41st St.
* @point[S 256th St and Hwy 51](d,53916.61). You will be making a right at this intersection onto the shoulder of Hwy 51. The Posted speed limit in this area is 65mph. What makes this dangerous is the limited sight distance of traffic approaching from the east.
* @slice[Hwy 51 to Hwy 151](d,54824.92,55603.78). This is only dangerous with impatient drivers. There is no shoulder here when transitioning from one road to the other. Once you are at the top you will have plenty of shoulder to the Keystone Dam.
* @photo[Keystone dam](3215466) offers great views of the lake and the river below. There is no shoulder on the dam so if you want to enjoy the views, dismount and get on the sidewalk.

# Notes

* A great ride no matter when you journey this route. But it is best during the spring and fall.
* There are no stops available until Coyote Corner at mile 31.2. Be sure to have plenty of hydration and nutrition with you.

## Food and Drink

There are two different opportunies once you finished the ride for refreshments and food.

* @poi[Margaritaville](5310944) at the River Spirit Casino. This is a recent addition of trail thanks to the casino. They included bike parking and access to the outdoor patio that is open to the public. 
* @poi[Los Cabos](5310949) has good food, drinks, and during the spring/summer live music.
