Spence Mountain is a new trail system conceived of, designed and built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. It would be hard to cram anything more into SpenceMountain; it has long climbs, fast descents, jumps, rock gardens and berms, all capped with stunning views of Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon’s largest inland body of water. A long shoulder season makes this ride an excellent option for early- or late-season visits, and downtown Klamath Falls is only 15 minutes away.

# Route Details 
@slice[The ride starts off with approximately 5 miles of climbing](d,0,7967.87) to let you get your legs underneath you. All of the climbing is moderate, which is good considering the trail starts at nearly 4,200 feet. But don’t get complacent — there are plenty of short, techy uphill sections to test your skills.

At about 5 miles in, you’ll make the first crest of the ride. Drop your saddle and start descending lower Hooligan Trail, @slice[a rollicking 2 miles of high-speed jumps and berms](d,7942.17,11653.65). At the bottom you’ll breeze by the Spence Mountain trailhead, but you won’t hesitate for a moment — the route is well signed throughout.

Downshift for an @slice[easy 5-mile climb](d,11732.62,19917.16) that is punctuated by views of the lake and nearby mountain ranges, and don’t forget to look over your shoulder to see Mt. Shasta looming across the California border. At the top, it’s worth the short jaunt up to the @point[summit of Spence Mountain](d,19974.65), topping out at 5,800 feet with a panoramic 360-degree view.

What goes up must come down. The fun begins in earnest as you drop into the @slice[North Ridge Trail](d,20295.29,24933.48). This is a bona fide black diamond trail with rock moves, notches anddrops, all crafted for your riding pleasure. Your bike and your skills will be tested, but your only regret will be when the trail deposits you back at your car. Hmm...Maybe you’re feeling strong enough for another lap?

# Riding Season 
The dry Southern Oregon climate means that Spence Mountain is in its prime when the rest of the state’s trails are under snow or mired in mud. The trail is clear from early spring to late fall, but the middle of summer can be hot and dusty.
